AREA BOYS HOOPS: No. 11 Wall Claims Outright Title Over TLCA

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The no. 11-ranked Wall Hawks claimed another district title with a 79-43 win over TLCA on Tuesday. 

Baylor Halfmann got Wall on the right track with a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter. Both teams were stealing the ball from each other in the first which kept the game tight at 12-9.

At the start of the second quarter, both teams continued to steal the ball from each other and continued to fight for the lead. 

TLCA put pressure on the Hawks in a man defense, as they stole the ball and scored which helped them push ahead of the Hawks. 

TLCA tried to run out the clock and keep the lead at the end of he first half, however, it wasn’t enough as Wall pushed the ball down the floor and crept back in the lead at 31-24 to end the half. 

At the start of the third Isaiah Guerra hit two consecutive threes to push Wall further ahead.

TLCA went into a full court press trying to put pressure on the Hawks. However, Wall continuously broke the press to extend the lead, outscoring the Eagles 22-7 to lead 53-31 entering the fourth quarter. Nine points from Colton Chitsey  

Wall continued to drive the ball down the floor against TLCA to close out the game with a 26-point outburst. Guerra and Mason Kindle each had seven points in the quarter.

Zack Dusek was the leading scorer for the Hawks with 19 points.

Colton Chitsey also hit double figures with 17 points for Wall.  Baylor Halfmann and Mason Kindle both notched 12 points each for the Hawks.

Jevon Everitt finished with 19 points for TLCA and the game-high scoring mark.

The only other Eagles in double figures were Isaac Gonzales with 11 and Harrison Ragan with 10.

Wall (29-3) will play the fourth place team from District 3-3A in the bi-district round of playoffs next week.

TLCA (22-5) will play the third place team from the same district in the bi-district round.

Central's Loss Doesn't End Playoff Hopes

The Central Bobcats fell to Fort Worth Haltom 66-60 on the road on Tuesday, but the loss didn't crush their playoff dreams.

With their loss and Fort Worth Richland's loss Tuesday night, the two teams are tied with Abilene for the final playoff spot.

That means the three teams will have a playoff tournament to determine the fourth seed. Central will take on Abilene on Friday. The winner will face Richland the next day.

The team who makes it to the end will get into the playoffs.

Times and locations have not been set for the tournament.
