Central's Brown, Green and Sonora's Bunch Tabbed With Statewide Recognition

DALLAS, TX-- The Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine's Whataburger Super Team was announced on Wednesday with three Concho Valley athletes making the cut of 40 players.

The team is split into 14 offensive players and 16 defensive players. Fans cast over 300,000 votes for their favorite players and the top 30 were named to each the offensive and defensive team. The remaining 10 were named to the Fan Choice because they received the most votes outside of the top 30.

Central's Daylon Green was the only one to make the cut of 30 by being named to one of three linebacker spots on the Super Team Defense. As captain, and All-Concho Valley team selection, Green anchored Central's defense to help them to their ninth consecutive playoff appearance.

Central sophomore Malachi Brown was named as the quarterback for the Fan Choice after bursting onto the scene earlier than expected. Brown earned Newcomer of the Year in District 3-6A and on our All-Concho Valley team after rushing for 1,434 yards, throwing for 1,283 and posting 25 touchdowns. He took over in week 2 after Maverick McIvor went down with a season-ending knee injury.

Last year, Central defensive back Gage Smith was named to the Super Team after helping the Bobcats to a fifth consecutive district championship.

Sonora's star defensive back Hunter Bunch was also named to the Fan Choice. The senior ballhawk was an All-Concho Valley selection after posting 155 total tackles, two interceptions and a blocked field goal. Because of those numbers, Bunch earned Utility Player of the Year in District 13-3A Division II.
