AREA GIRLS HOOPS: No. 1 Wall Cruises to Coveted Whataburger Tourney Title

SAGINAW, TX-- The no. 1-ranked Wall Lady Hawks completed an undefeated run to the Whataburger Tournament Championship on Saturday.

After opening the tournament with a win over 4A Seminole, the Lady Hawks proceeded to beat Panhandle 49-40 and Liberty Christian 50-45 on Friday. That set up a meeting with defending Class 1A state champ Nazareth the next day.

Nazareth kept pace with the Lady Hawks by holding even at 12-12 after the first quarter. Nazareth then took an 18-15 lead into halftime after holding Wall to a field goal and free throw in the second quarter.

Behind Sam Rocha's six points and a three pointer from Sawyer Lloyd, Wall was able to regain a 25-24 lead entering the fourth quarter.

The Lady Hawk defense then put the clamps on the Swiftettes to outscore them 8-4 in the final quarter for the 33-28 win.

Lloyd finished as the team-high scorer with 13 points. The senior point guard was named the tournament MVP after leading the Lady Hawks to the title.

Rocha and Jayden Fiebiger each finished with seven points in Wall's lowest scoring game this season. Both were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Hawks have now won their last eight games with a legitimate shot at finishing the regular season with just one loss.

Wall (15-1, 4-0) will get back into district play on Jan. 4 with a home game against Brady.
