AREA GIRLS HOOPS: Hot Hand Helps Lift Lady Cats Past Euless Trinity

 

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The Central Lady Cats needed three consecutive three pointers to spark a come-from-behind 42-33 win over Euless Trinity on Friday.

Central got those threes from Victoria Lopez in the fourth quarter and they were her only points in the game.

The Lady Cats trailed 19-18 at the half after jumping on Euless Trinity to take a 10-6 lead in the first quarter behind threes from Anjelina Humphreys and Daryn Greene.

Central held within striking distance after the third quarter, trailing 26-23 after a three by Layla Young and a pair of free throws from Parris Parmer.

Then, midway through the fourth, Lopez completed the comeback. Her first two threes tied the game at 28 and 31. Her third gave Central the lead and they never looked back, outscoring Trinity 15-7 in the final period.

Parmer led the way with 12 points, including four in the fourth quarter.

Central (16-3, 3-0) will close out the calendar year with a non-district road trip to Lubbock Monterey next Thursday.

No. 1 Wall Claims 74-Point Win Over Grape Creek

The no. 1-ranked Wall Lady Hawks took their dominance to a whole new level with a 77-3 win over district foe Grape Creek on Friday.

The Lady Hawks went on a 39-0 run before Grape Creek got on the board. Rachel Porter hit a two-point field goal as time expired in the first half to get the Lady Eagles on the board, trailing 39-2 at the half.

Wall started the second half with more dominance, going on a 10-0 run to start. Kyla Walker split a pair of free throws to make it 49-3.

Wall then went on to score 28 unanswered points to close out the game.

The Lady Hawks had three players in double digit scoring. Sam Rocha and Jayden Fiebiger led the way with 20 points each. Haley Palmera finished with 12 points.

Wall (13-1) will be in action at the Whataburger Tournament in Dallas-Fort Worth next weekend. Grape Creek will close out their 2018 slate at the Eden Tournament Dec. 27-29.

Sonora Holds Off Reagan County to Bounce Back in District

The Sonora Lady Broncos defeated Reagan County in a game where a huge Sonora 20 point fourth quarter sparked a 52-28 win. 

Sonora started off hot. A quick 7-0 run was easily the highlight of the quarter. The sharpshooting from Lady Broncos Skylar Harris and Raeven Harris led the way to a 19-4 score after 1 quarter of play. 

The second quarter of play the offense of Sonora cooled off a bit. Reagan County’s Melissa Hernandez helped spark a 6-0 Lady Owl run to bring the game within 11 with 5 minutes to play. Despite the slow start to the quarter, Sonora responded with a 5-0 run to end the half to put the Lady Broncos up 28-12 heading into the locker room.

A quick 4 Sonora points is how the second half started. With 5 minutes, 25 seconds to play, the score was 32-12 in favor of the Lady Broncos. From there, it was all Reagan County. Senior Melissa Hernandez had eight third quarter points leading a 14-0 run to end the quarter. Cutting the deficit to just 6. Going into the final quarter of play, Sonora led 32-26. 

Despite the huge run in the third, Reagan County just couldn’t climb out of the hole they were in. Sonora’s Skylar Harris helped seal the deal for the Lady Broncos with seven fourth quarter points. Giving Sonora a huge bounce back district win

Sonora (15-3, 2-2) will be in the Eden Tournament on Dec. 27. Reagan County falls to 6-9 and 1-2 on the year.
