AREA BOYS HOOPS: No. 14 Wall Stays Unbeaten With Rout of Grape Creek

 

GRAPE CREEK, TX-- The no. 14-ranked Wall Hawks kept rolling through the season with a 60-17 win over Grape Creek Friday.

Grape Creek held close with the Hawks, trailing 13-6 after the first quarter. Wall then put the clamps on in the second quarter to extend their lead to 22-8 at halftime.

The Hawks got hot out of the break with Isaiah Guerra and Baylor Halfmann scoring four of Wall's five three pointers in the third. Wall outscored the Eagles 19-5 in that quarter to go up 41-13.

Halfmann duplicated his performance from the first and third quarters by hitting two more three pointers in a quarter where Wall outscored Grape Creek 19-4.

Halfmann was the game-high scorer with 18 points off five three pointers. Guerra was right behind him with 15 points.

Garrett Steele led the way for Grape Creek with seven points.

Wall (15-0, 2-0) will play in the Whataburger Tournament Dec. 27-29. Grape Creek (3-10, 0-2) will also be in tournament play that weekend.

Euless Trinity's Hot Start Dooms Bobcats

The Euless Trinity Trojans used a 19-9 run in the first quarter to set the tone and sink the Central Bobcats 90-68 Friday at Babe Didrikson Gym.

Following that first quarter, Trinity outscored Central 21-10 to take a commanding 21-point lead to halftime.

Behind a pair of three pointers from Mike Bonner, Central was able to trim the deficit and outscore Trinity 17-15 in the third quarter.

Then both teams put on a scoring clinic by combining 67 points in the fourth quarter. Trinity outscored the Bobcats 35-32 in that quarter.

Bonner led the way for Central with 21 points and five three pointers.

Central (9-7, 1-1) will be in action at the Byron Johnston Holiday Classic on Dec. 28.

Chiefs Squander 12-point Lead in OT Loss to Odessa High

A 12-point lead was not enough for the Lake View Chiefs in a 48-47 overtime heartbreaker against Odessa High Friday afternoon.

Lake View and Odessa played each other close throughout the game, With Lake View holding leads of one, five and two points after each of the first three quarters.

The Chiefs were able to grow their lead to 12 points late in the game, but Josh Cabello's 23 second half points nullified that deficit. Cabello would finish as the game-high scorer with 28 points.

Lake View had three players in double digits. Johnny Espinosa finished as the team-high scorer with 14 points. Dylan Hart and Ahmad Daniels each finished with 12 points for the Chiefs.

Lake View (5-11) will be in the Monahans Sandhills Tournament Dec. 27-29.
