Eldorado's Season Cut Short by Haskell in Dying Minutes

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The Haskell Indians knocked out the Eldorado Eagles 26-22. This matchup hinged on who could control the ball the best.

“I’m proud of our kids, they played hard,” said Eagles Head Coach Michael Johnson.

Eldorado, though, managed to finish with 303 yards, compared to Haskell’s 379 yards.

Both teams were moving fiercely down the field all game.

Eldorado QB Korbin Covarrubiaz threw for 145 yards as well as rushing for 31 yards. Covarrubiaz’s go-to guy, Caesar Garcia, had 71 yards receiving on the night. The overall leading rusher was an Eagle, Eric Reyes, with 104 yards.

Indians quarterback, Cutter Medford, racked up 228 yards passing. A chunk of that was a 90-yard touchdown pass to Manuel Acosta.

The Indians held the lead and the Eagles scoreless until just minutes before halftime when Covarrubiaz connected with Garcia for a 19-yard touchdown.

In the second half however, the Eagles came out soaring. Eldorado put up 14 points in the third quarter, both short pushes into the end zone.

But Haskell was sure to recspond until the clock ran out, as they finished off the scoring with just one minute remaining to put themselves back on top.

Coach Johnson concluded with, “I’m proud of how our kids have played and they are going to go become something special.”

The Eldorado Eagles fall to 6-5 to finish the season.
