Eldorado Proves They Mean Business With Rout of Miles

ELDORADO, TX-- The Eldorado Eagles soared over the Miles Bulldogs 48-0 in a District 8-2A Division II blowout on Friday.

The Offense for the Eagles was explosive all night, scoring most of their points on plays that were twenty plus yards. Eldorado finished the night with 449 yards of total offense.

Eric Reyes was the star of the Eagles explosive offense. Reyes finished the night with 204 yards rushing and four rushing touchdowns.

“It's the culture that we’ve created as a staff, and our administration has done a great job helping with," said head coach Michael Johnson after the win. "I’m just so proud of the process and seeing them [not get complacent]."

The game started off with Miles coming out and not getting much going on offense, leading to a turnover on downs at Eldorado's 40-yard line.

Eldorado didn’t waste any time with scoring on the third play on drive with Korbin Covarrubiaz throwing a 60-yard bomb to Jaakan Jurecek.

Mistakes on offense really cost the Bulldogs early in this one. After having getting the ball inside their own thirty, but after a bad snap over Jared Flores head it made it 3rd and 27. The drive resulted in a Bulldog punt

The Eagles came out attacking once again. On the very first play of this drive, Covarrubiaz threw a 63-yard touchdown to Kaden Key.

After another four and out by Miles, the offense for the Eagles showed no sign of letting up. Covarrubias found Jurecek once again, this time not for a touchdown, but he did end up getting forty-five yards off the play and set up the running touchdown by Eric Reyes.

At the end of the 1st quarter the score was 22-0.

The second quarter was the exact same story as the first quarter: all Eldorado and no Miles.

The very first play of the second quarter was a huge break out run for a 41-yard touchdown for Reyes.

Another thing that hurt the Bulldogs was the fact that after they would get rolling, or get a first down, they would hurt themselves with penalties. If it was a hold, chop block, or an illegal formation it would really deplete the offense.

Miles finally had a chance to stop Eldorado with them on Eldorado’s fourty five, but after a tough passing interference call the eagles got a first and ten. It only took them two more plays to cap off the drive. Covarrubiaz ran one in this time for a twenty-four yard touchdown.

To end the half the eagles came down and scored another making it 42-0 at half.

The first possession was a lot like the first half with Reyes getting a twenty-four yard touchdown. After this though the third quarter was a lot more competitive with both defenses really stepping up. Miles did drive down the field in the middle of the third, but after an intentional ground, a sack, and a tackle for loss they ended up having another turnover on downs.

Eldorado did end up putting up the shutout while holding Miles to only 200 total yards.

“It’s district every game is key, we can’t focus on Christoval," Johnson said. "It's a process, Miles is a good football team. We had to take care of business here, and now it's on to Rocksprings. We’re going to enjoy it tonight, but tomorrow it's back to the grind.”

Eldorado (4-3, 2-0) travels to play Rocksprings next week. Miles (4-3, 1-1) faces Irion County in week 0.
