Week 3 Players to Watch in the Concho Valley

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Week 3 could be a big stage for some Concho Valley players this week.

They'll be looking to break on the scene this week and show they're here to stay.

Here are three players you need to watch in week 3 of the high school football season:

Malachi Brown, Central Bobcats, So., QB

Brown takes the reins of Central's high-octane offense sooner than thought with the season-ending injury to Maverick McIvor.

He may not be the Texas Tech commit, but Brown still brings talent to the quarterback position for Central.

Brown can run the ball pretty well, especially for a sophomore. That will come in handy until he shows his downfield passing ability. Expect Central to use his running ability and their quick game until then.

While losing your starting quarterback isn't ever a good thing, losing him with time to develop his replacement could be a silver lining.

This week Central faces a tough Cedar Park team which head coach Brent Davis regards as "probably the best 0-2 team in the state." Next week they face El Paso Pebble Hills who are riding high to open the season.

In those two games, Brown will get looks extremely similar to those he'll see in District 3-6A, especially against Cedar Park.

Damian Willborn, Ballinger Bearcats, Sr., RB

Willborn has emerged as the leader on Ballinger's run game through two games.

The senior as rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries for the Bearcats this season.

Willborn really proved to be a workhorse in their dominant win over Reagan County in week 2.

He rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown on six carries, including an 84 yarder.

This week Ballinger gets another test with a tough Colorado City team coming to town. Willborn will likely be leaned on in that game as well.

Kodee Warriner, Reagan County, Sr., TE

Reagan County has run the ball a lot through their first two games, 74 times to be exact.

Leading that rushing attack is Warriner. The senior has rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Warriner posted 171 of those yards in their win over Stanton in week 1. He was held in check against Ballinger last week with just 21 yards on six carries.

Against Ozona this week, Warriner should be expected to carry a fair share of the load for the Owls.
