AREA FOOTBALL: Blizzards Freeze Eldorado in the Rain

SAN ANGELO, TX-- (Written by James Dougherty, Special to San Angelo LIVE!) Winters was able to steal Eldorado’s “Homecoming” with a 22-0 win in the rain at Old Bobcat Stadium.

Quarterback Jovan Young got things done on the ground for Winters with 153 yards rushing on 14 carries out of the 318 total rushing yards for the team.

Two big runs of 62 and 39 yards by Young scored 2 touchdowns to help the Blizzards ground the Eagles. Running back Sema’jae Jackson busted a 51-yard score with 5:55 left in the third on a key possession in the game.

Out of the 8 pass attempts for WHS, it was Slater Lindley who completed his only pass for 10 yards to give Winters 328 total yard of offense and to help keep the Blizzards drive going in the Fourth.

The defense from Winters froze the Eagles with 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and an interception just as Eldorado got into the redzone for the first time late in the 4th quarter.

The rain at Old Bobcat Stadium kept Eldorado from throwing ball in the first half, slowing the high tempo spread offense down by having to keep the ball on the ground.

Only 196 totals for the Eagles, mainly on the ground, led by quarterback Kevan Covarrubiaz with 82 rushing yards. Covarrubiaz was 10-24 passing with 54 yards and 1 intercept as well.

Eldorado (1-1) will travel to south Texas to face the Brackett Tigers (0-2) next Friday. Winters (2-0) will host Bangs (0-2) next Friday.a
