Lady Bulldogs' Mata Headlines Offense in Win over Eldorado
MILES, TX-- The Miles Lady Bulldogs brought the heat to the Eldorado Lady Eagles, defeating them 7-2 on Friday in Miles.
Miles' Head Coach Matt Jones said, “It's the first time that we have played seven strong innings, it was really good to see.”
Miles pulled away in the third inning, as they held Eldorado scoreless the rest of the game, and racked up runs of their own.
Skyler Brooks, an unstoppable shortstop for the Lady Bulldogs, went 1-for-4 at the plate, but she scored all three times. Brooks’ speed aided her, as she stole two bases in one outing.
“She’s a big part of it at the plate and in the field,” stated Jones about Brooks
Josy Mata was key in Miles’ success as well, she collected three RBIs in her 3-for-4 performance.
Jones said, “She’s always at the plate doing her job, whether it’s bunting or hitting the ball”.
Lastly, Miles pitcher Megan McAda, powered through the entire game. McAda did not skip a beat, totaling five strikeouts, two of which were in the seventh inning, and five hits allowed. Her pitches were consistent throughout the game.
Nothing but praise came from Jones, as he said, “She stepped up and pitched two really good games back-to-back, so today she was especially strong.”
CJ Covarrubiaz led the Lady Eagles offensively by going 2-for-3 and scored both of Eldorado’s runs.
Monica Sanchez was valiant in her six innings of work where she allowed five hits and struck out three, but ultimately was charged with the loss.
