Chappa's Pitching not Enough for Lake View Against Abilene Cooper

SAN ANGELO, TX—The Lake View Chiefs dropped their district 4-5A opener 8-0 to Abilene Cooper on Tuesday night.

The Chiefs limited the Cougars to two runs after the first three innings for a manageable 2-0 deficit.

Beginning in the fourth inning, Cooper began to tag Lake View with six runs across the final frames.

“It was the little things,” Lake View Head Coach Chad Kinney said. “In the six games we’ve lost, it’s been the little things that killed us. It’s not a lot of big stuff. It’s just the little stuff.”

Kinney would go on to lament the four times the Chiefs had been back picked by Cooper’s Ender Freeman.

“Once we get that cleaned up, we’ll be fine,” Kinney continued. “[Abilene Cooper] is picked to win district. I feel we were blow for blow with them.”

Lake View’s Matty Chapa looked solid on the mound going six innings with six strikeouts in the loss.

“[Matty] went out there and competed his butt off,” Kinney commended of his star right hander. “He came out and said this was the best he’s ever felt. We rode him as long as we could. He had them off balance. But, again, it’s the little things behind him.”

In a side that struck out eight times and tallied just four hits, Lake View’s Daylon Saenz excelled at the plate by going 2-for-3 in the loss.

The Chiefs fall to 4-6-1 and 0-1 in district play. They’ll travel to Amarillo to play in the Amarillo Tournament this Thursday through Friday.
