An Explosive Wall Ground Attack Puts Away Friona 55-22 in 1st Round of Playoffs
SWEETWATER, TX — The Wall Hawks exploded in the playoffs with a dominant victory over the Friona Chiefs, 55-22.
Wall had over 420 total offensive yards, compared to Friona’s 260 offensive yards. Of course, the vast majority of the Hawks’ yards were accounted for by keeping the ball on the ground.
The Hawks held the Chiefs scoreless until the last seven seconds of the first half, when the Chiefs made a short pass to find the end zone. Wall Head Coach Houston Guy took credit for the Hawks not shutting them out in the first half, “The clock management there at the end, I take full responsibility for that.”
To start the night, Casey Braden plowed through the Chiefs defense. Braden accounted for the first two touchdowns of the night. He rushed for 30 yards to finish one off in the end zone, and the following for 13 yards. In the latter run, he snuck around the back and swept up the sideline just inside the right corner of the pylon. Braden continued to be a powerhouse for the Hawks throughout the game. In the second half, he matched his first half, scoring two more times. One was a 51-yard run and the other was 32 yards. Braden was the leading rusher with over 200 yards. In each of Braden’s successes, he spotted a seam and absolutely busted through it.
Braden gave credit to his O-Line as well as stating, “We just had everything planned out exactly how we wanted it and it just turned out perfect.”

Other key players for Wall included Dryden Virden who skillfully returned a punt for an 88-yard touchdown. Once Virden had secured the ball he was a blur as he ran to the end zone narrowly against the right sideline.
Brock Rosenquist found the end zone himself from just one yard out to finish off a well-fought drive. He also connected with Tymber Carr for another with a short pass, in which Carr tucked the ball and took off for the goal line. Carr later picked up a rushing six as well.
“I thought they played excellent tonight”, Coach Guy said.
