Wall Hawks Meet Challenge of a Tough Midland Christian

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Wall Hawks remained perfect on the season defeating the Midland Christian Mustangs 40-21 in what proved to be their toughest matchup thus far.

Coming into the game, Wall fans were hoping to finally get some decent competition. Hopes were high as the Mustangs’ squad came into the game with a 6-1 record. Wall fans initially got more than they bargained for as Midland Christian struck first on a touchdown pass from Coy Stewart to Silas Crews putting the Mustangs up 7-0.

Wall Head Coach Houston Guy said, “That first series we were trying to get to the ball so fast we were almost getting there too fast. We were overrunning a lot of stuff and they were cutting it back behind us.”

Early in the second quarter the Hawks struggles continued as kicker Mitchell Horton missed a 37-yard field goal attempt. For the first time all season, the Hawks were in a position they were not used to be, as the Mustangs seemed to control the tempo and momentum.

However, a few plays after the missed field goal, the momentum shifted quickly in favor of Wall after a clutch interception by Drake Holiefield who returned the ball all the way to the Mustangs 4-yard line.

The Hawks capitalized quickly on this opportunity as Brock Rosenquist scored on a keeper to tie the game at 7 with 10:25 left in the first half.

A stalled drive by the Mustangs would lead to another scoring drive by the Hawks as running back Casey Braden galloped his way to a 43-yard touchdown run.

The Mustangs would get the ball back, but were forced to punt to the Hawks before the half once again leading to another big drive for the Hawks.

Quarterback Brock Rosenquist drove the Hawks methodically down field finding Lucas Hurtado for a 10-yard touchdown pass capping an 80-yard drive for Wall that put them up 21-7 going into the half.

Wall continued to command the game going into the second half with Rosenquist adding two more rushing touchdowns to the Hawks total.

Braden continued his stellar night tacking on another 48-yard touchdown run for the Hawks who now had a decisive 40-7 lead over the Mustangs.

Midland Christian found some success on offense scoring two more touchdowns with less than five minutes left in the fourth for a total of 21 points, the most allowed by Wall all season.

Despite Wall giving up their highest points total on the season they dominated as usual and did not allow the Mustangs a chance to get back into the game when it mattered.

The rushing attack was pivotal for the Hawks with Rosenquist and Braden combining for an impressive total of 276 yards on the ground and 5 rushing touchdowns.

When speaking of his teams big night rushing Braden said, “Our line just blocked really well and we executed exactly how we planned to.”
