State Ranked Hawks Make Statement in First Game

SAN ANGELO, TX—The Wall Hawks dominated their season opener at home in a lopsided affair, defeating the Monahans Loboes 50-13.

Hawks Head Coach Houston Guy stated that he “thought it was going to go a lot different,” but that injuries to the Loboes' quarterback and running back “really took a lot of firepower away from them.”

Coach Guy also credited his defense in the victory. “the defensive scheme we used against these guys was very, very good," he said.

The Hawks got on the board first thanks to an explosive rushing touchdown by running back Casey Braden, putting the Hawks up 7-0.

After three and outs by both teams, the Loboes found their way onto the scoreboard with a touchdown pass from quarterback JT Pittman to wide receiver Jalen Sullivan with 2:37 left in the first, tying the game at 7-7.

On the ensuing drive, Casey Braden found another hole in the defense and galloped his way to a 67 yard touchdown run. After a failed extra point attempt the Hawks led the game 13-7 with 2:17 left in the first. The first quarter would end with the same score after the Loboes went three and out, forcing them to punt.

Wall took advantage of the opportunity on the next drive, as they scored again with a toss to Tymber Carr, who bulldozed his way to a 38-yard touchdown run putting the Hawks up 19-7 after a failed two-point conversion.

Following the touchdown, the Hawks maintained momentum on their side with a big time interception by Lucas Garcia at the Loboes 25 yard line. Quarterback Brock Rosenquist capitalized on the Loboes' mistake with a 21-yard rushing touchdown that would put the Hawks up 26-7 with 9:27 left in the second.

Again the Loboes would be forced to punt. The Hawks would capitalize again on a pitch to Tymber Carr that resulted in a 56 yard touchdown run for the running back. Although the two point conversion was no good, the Hawks were dominating the game by this point with a 32-7 score.

The Loboes would continue to make mistakes, turning the ball over again immediately on the kickoff from the Hawks. The Hawks took over the ball at the Loboes' 32 yard line, looking to widen their lead.

At this point the Wall rushing attack was too great for Monahans to deal with. This time quarterback Brock Rosenquist found the end zone with a six yard rushing touchdown putting the Hawks up 38-7 with 3:17 left in the second quarter. Neither team scored again in the second quarter.

The Hawks defense looked strong in the first half as they forced the Monahans Loboes to multiple three-and-outs throughout. Monahans saw slight success running with McCalister, but their drives stalled except for their one scoring drive.

Wall came out strong again in the third quarter as Casey Braden scored another 67 yard touchdown putting the Hawks up 44-7 with 11:43 left in the 3rd quarter. Later in the 3rd Wall’s Garrett Stephens rushed his way to a touchdown putting the Hawks up to a demanding 50-7 lead after a missed extra point.

Monahans' Lewis Wesley found the end-zone with 1:39 left in the 4th, but it was already too late for the Loboes.

The Hawks took a knee to run out the clock and put a cap on an impressive season opening victory with the final total of 50-13.

Wall (1-0) will take on Cisco at 7:30 p.m. next Friday on the road.
