Rally to Keep the Name of Robert E. Lee Middle School Set for Saturday

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – A peaceful rally has been set up for Saturday to keep the name of Robert E. Lee Middle school. 

According to organizer Debbie Cross, on Saturday the San Angelo Freedom Defenders will be protesting the renaming of Robert E Lee Middle School from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. in front of the school on Sherwood Way.

"Make your signs to voice your opinion on Keeping the Name," said Cross. "We will maintain kindness, courtesy and facts in all we do." 

The group will have a petition that wil be available to sign to keep the name of Robert E. Lee on the school. 

Robert E Lee has been facing a ton of scrutiny lately with his role in the civil war. Here is a featured video piece on Lee: 

SAISD is considering changing the name but nothing is set in stone as of now.

"Let's be peaceful, friendly, and let our voice be heard," said Cross " We look forward to seeing all who oppose this name change issue."
