Friends Hold Fundraiser After Sudden, Tragic Death of Popular San Angelo Hair Stylist
SAN ANGELO, TX — When Jacob “Jake” Scott died suddenly of a brain stem stroke on November 28, friends and family were shocked. He was a well-known hair artist at ARock Saloon and a popular local artist whose work was showcased at Art in Uncommon Places. He seemed to be in perfect health.
He applied his visual art skills by earning a degree in cosmetology at the Texas College of Cosmetology two years ago.
Autumn Brockman searches for new talent continuously, particularly on social media. That’s when she spotted Jake and convinced him to join her salon.
“When he showed up he was very nervous, but he grew his clientele and turned out to be phenomenal. He had a passion for art, and it translated naturally in the way he fashioned his hairstyles,” Brockman said. At ARock, Brockman refers to her hairdressers as hair artists.
“That’s what we look for. Artists,” Brockman said. “Jake successfully infused his artistic creativity into helping his clients look and feel beautiful.”
Many loved Jake and he poured his heart and soul into his profession and his family, friends said.
Jake is survived by his wife, Park Scott, and his seven-year-old daughter, Piper. He was a member of the Southgate Church of Christ where his funeral was held Dec. 3.
At only 30 years old, the sudden death came at a time when Jake was just at the beginning of a promising career. His family doesn’t have much wealth.
To help defray the expenses of the hospital bills and for his burial, friends in the San Angelo cosmetology industry are holding a raffle for a set of hair cutting scissors. Professionally the scissors are called a set of Shark Fin Sheers. The winner can choose a 7-inch Barber Sheer Set, a $400 value, or a 5.5-inch Stylist Sheer Set, a $320 value. Either set includes a blending shear and case. Raffle tickets are just $20 and can be purchased at the Texas College of Cosmetology, 3504 Knickerbocker Road through December 17, 2019.
