It's National Voter Registration Day, Are You Ready to Vote?

SAN ANGELO, TX – Today is National Voter Registration Day and every eligible voter must be properly registered for upcoming elections. Voting is an integral part of the democratic process and every vote counts.

Making sure everyone in Tom Green County is properly registered to vote is part of the work that is undertaken by the Tom Green County Election and Voter Registration Office. They are available to answer questions and concerns voters may have and assist with registration.

“It’s not just about getting registered in the first place, but it’s also making sure that everything is correct on your registration,” said Vona Hudson, Tom Green County Election Administrator.

There are several ways to become a registered voter in the county before the deadline for the upcoming elections. No documents are required to be presented at the time of registration, the only paperwork that must be presented and completed is a voter registration application.

The application is available in the Election and Voter Registration Office or can be mailed to individuals who are unable to visit in person. It is also available on the TGC Elections website and the Texas Secretary of State’s website to download, print and mail.

Address changes within the same county can be completed online; any other changes must be done in person or by mailing in an updated voter registration card.

Voter registration can be completed at the Department of Public Service when updating a driver’s license or ID’s. Volunteer Deputy Registrars are also available and are certified to help individuals with their application and accept completed forms. ID’s are only required when voting and are not necessary to register to vote.

A person will remain registered until they update their information with the corresponding county. An individual cannot be registered in multiple addresses; even if they have a residence in different areas of the same county. Homeowners must choose one residence at the time of registration.

Incorrect information or outdated addresses can impact the ability of voters to have their voices heard in elections. Even if a person is simply changing addresses within the same city or county it is imperative to update all relevant information.

“We have different elections that are precinct driven or single-member district for schools and cities driven, and if you are not in the right one [registered district] you may not be voting for the correct person,” said Hudson, “You will be probably voting for the person that represented you before, rather than the one where you live now.”

An important reminder is that a person who was previously convicted of a felony and has served their time and is cleared off all probation and court process can register to vote. Ballots by mail are also available for those who cannot attend their designated polling place. Currently, approximately 1,300 paper ballots have been sent out for the upcoming election in Tom Green County.

In Tom Green County the next election is rapidly approaching in which constituents will have the opportunity to vote on ten constitutional amendments, a city proposition, and a school bond election, depending on where you live in the county. The special election will be held on November 5th and as a friendly reminder, the last day to be registered to vote in this particular election will be on October 7th. Voters must be registered 30 days before the upcoming election to be eligible to vote at that particular time.

Nancy Pelosi on impeachment - "no one is above the law." Uh, what law? The influence peddling law guiding Joe Biden's son profiting from Ukraine? The current gaggle of Dems is truly pitiful, leaders and voters...….

People talk about profiting, but say nothing about the hundreds of thousands of dollars trump inc. makes from his stays at his resorts. Or extorting military aid for a "favor". Then demanding it be covered up. Clearly the conservative party in this country has turned into a feckless gaggle of snowflakes intent on shredding the Constitution for power. The founders would have had him tarred and feathered.
