Speed Trap Nabs 123 Citations and One Arrest

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — (SAPD Press Release) This morning, the San Angelo Police Department’s Traffic Section conducted a School Zone Traffic Enforcement Operation utilizing LIDAR and RADAR in numerous school zones throughout San Angelo.  Following the School Zone Operation, and with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety, additional LIDAR Traffic Enforcement was conducted targeting westbound traffic in the 1700 block of E. Houston Harte near Bell Street.  

Police issued a total of one hundred twenty-three citations and warnings and made one arrest during the operation.  

Breakdown for citations and arrests: 

School Zones

  • Driving While License Invalid: 1
  • Other/Misc. Violations: 2
  • Child Safety Seat: 1
  • No Insurance: 2
  • Speeding: 16
  • Warnings: 4 

Houston Harte

  • Speeding: 75 (Highest Speed 90 MPH)
  • Driving While License Invalid: 3
  • Other/Misc. Violations: 8
  • Warrant Arrest: 1
  • No Insurance: 1
  • Warnings: 9
  • No DL: 1 

As a reminder, the Texas Transportation Code requires motorists nearing stopped emergency vehicles or TxDOT vehicles with lights activated to vacate the lane closest to the stopped vehicle (if there is more than one available lane in the same direction of travel) or slow to 20 miles below the speed limit. 

Failing to take these actions endangers personnel who provide critical and life-saving services.  Violation of this law could result in fines up to $200.  The punishment is more severe if there is property damage, and jail time is possible if someone is injured.
