Arctic Front Bringing Frigid Temps for the Weekend

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement today.

The statement says lows on Saturday are expected to be in the high 20s or low 30s throughout the Concho Valley.

The NWS also said that temperatures in the mid 20s should be expected in low lying areas.

They also strongly encourage sheltering pets and plants and also protecting pipes.

Major Tim Grider of the Salvation Army said their emergency shelter on West 2nd Street is always open for those in need.

"The shelter is open every day and night, whether there's inclement weather or not," Major Grider said. "We serve breakfast and dinner."

The cold front is supposed to sweep through the area on Friday with winds 20-30 mph.

This same system is expected to produce around a foot of snow in the northern US. No precipitation is expected for the Concho Valley, however.
