Goodfellow AFB Comments on Toddler Drowning Incident

SAN ANGELO, TX — A 2-year-old girl is reported to be in critical condition after nearly drowning at Lake Nasworthy Saturday evening.

San Angelo Police Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez reports the toddler and her parents were reportedly attending a function at the Goodfellow Recreation Camp, 1938 S. Concho Drive, when she became separated from her parents and other attendees.  After the group noticed the toddler was missing, they began searching the area.  Soon after the search began, one of the event’s attendees, a United States Army Firefighter, pulled the toddler from the lake and immediately began life-saving measures.

San Angelo Police and Fire Departments were notified about the incident just after 7:00 p.m.  Upon arrival, Officers were directed to the shoreline where subjects were performing life-saving measures on the toddler, who was unresponsive.

SAPD Officers assumed CPR until San Angelo Fire Department Medics arrived.  The toddler was transported by ambulance to San Angelo Community Medical Center for initial assessment and later flown to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas where she was admitted to the facility’s intensive care unit.

The Department’s Lake Division and Criminal Investigations Division responded.

This investigation is ongoing.
