San Angelo Health Foundation Awards $685k in Grants

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Board Chair Mike Boyd announced the San Angelo Health Foundation has awarded $684,749 to seven area non-profit organizations. Approximately 204 organizations and 663 projects have benefited from Foundation funding in over twenty years of grant making. 

Grants Chair Marilyn Aboussie said the following grants encompass arts and culture, assault victim services, education, human services and mental health.

Angelo State University was awarded $92,891 to create a state of the art 3D anatomy lab. The anatomy lab will be part of the University’s new Archer College of Health and Human Sciences building slated to open in 2018. Angelo State University offers a wide variety of degrees with many in the healthcare industry.

Concho Valley Turning Point was awarded $26,566 to renovate a dedicated building for group counseling. Services they offer are anger management classes, Christian based Alcohol Anonymous and other peer based support groups. They also operate a 20 bed transitional housing apartment for men.

The Haven Family Shelter was awarded $67,738 to upgrade security, renovations and furniture. The Haven Family Shelter serves McCulloch, Mason and Menard counties as well as surrounding areas. Their mission is to reduce the incidence and impact of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. They provide counseling, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, clothes and any other needs a victim may have.

Howard College was awarded $74,044 for a construction trades program facility. Howard College began offering classes in 1973 in San Angelo. They have grown and expanded to offer over 45 areas of study. The construction trades program will provide construction related industry professionals.

ICD Family Shelter was awarded $64,850 to purchase land adjacent to their facility. The Family Shelter is staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They provide residential and out-patient services to thirteen counties. Services offered are an emergency shelter, extended stay apartments, education and prevention of domestic violence, a 24 hour crisis hotline, extended stay apartments, counseling and a variety of support groups.

Rust Street Ministries was awarded $23,920 over two years for a part-time receiving dock employee. Rust Street Ministries provides food, clothing and household items at no charge to anyone in need. In 2016 they assisted 27,177 people, provided 324,169 pounds of food, 78,259 articles of clothing, 1,567 pieces of furniture and 625 appliances.

San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts was awarded $334,740 for capital repairs and improvements to the museum. Their mission is to maintain a museum to house and exhibit a permanent collection of art, provide space for traveling exhibitions and for the purpose of enjoyment and education of the general public. The Art Museum provides many activities and educational opportunities for youth and adults.
