Local Athlete Wins State Title for Baton Twirling, Moves on to Nationals

SAN ANGELO, TX – A local seven-year-old from Christoval has already achieved State recognition in a short amount of time for baton twirling.

Khloe Page, 7, has been honing her twirling skills since she was five-years-old.

Page has excelled in the sport since she was named the 2017 Little Miss Majorette of Texas at this year’s State Twirling competition. The participants in this category perform in three events, Pageant Modeling/Interview, Xstrut, and Solo Twirling. The points are tallied in all three categories to decide the top performer.

Khloe also won the 2017 Southwestern Regional in Solo and Xstrut performance. Xstrut is a baton twirling style that has the participant march in an x-pattern while performing their routine.

Page said she really enjoys practicing with her coach Pamela Randolph and enjoys getting to do all the fun tricks she learned since starting baton twirling.

“I like all the cool tricks I get to do,” Page explained. “I especially enjoy my show twirls.”

She plans to stick with twirling through her college career as it helps with scholarship opportunities, while also providing an engaging and competitive atmosphere to improve her craft.

“I want to keep moving along, and get better as I go,” Page stated. “I want to go to college for twirling because I think it might be easier to go to college. [I’d also] be excited to twirl on the football field in college.”

Page showed a lot of excitement at the idea of twirling at a football game and would be more than happy to get a chance to twirl at a local High School football game.

Page and Randolph will be traveling to the University of Norte Dame for Nationals on July 24-28. Page is among 67 other participants from Texas who will attend this year’s competition.

Page will participate in Miss Majorette, solo xstrut, and show twirl events to name a few.

Randoph believes twirling teaches confidence, discipline, and presentation. She encourages children to find something they love, and to be active.  Randoph developed the Conch Valley Pearlettes which aims to teach participants about the sport and art of baton twirling.

Randolph is currently working on finalizing a twirling class that would be made available through the San Angelo YMCA.

She said her classes will teach the basics of the sport, and will be open to twirlers of all ages and ability levels.

Students will have the chance to be on twirling teams or compete solo and have opportunities for public performance. Classes will be held on Sundays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
