San Angelo's 19th St. Blocked After 3-Vehicle Accident Tuesday Afternoon

A three-vehicle accident at the intersection of 19th St. and Irving Ave. at 5:12 p.m. today has traffic at a standstill. Irving Ave. was impassable for approximately 40 minutes while the scene was investigated and cleared.

One person has been sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

The black GMC was stopped, headed eastbound on 19th St., attempting to make a left turn north on Irving Ave. The red mini-van was slowing down to stop behind the black GMC pickup. The white dually Dodge Ram pickup that was pulling a 5,000-pound engine on a trailer and did not start slowing down soon enough to stop. The white Dodge impacted the red minivan at a high rate of momentum.

Einstein described the problem the white Dodge experienced as E=mc2. E, or energy, equals the mass of the truck, trailer and the engine he was towing, and c equals velocity, or the speed the driver was traveling. The truck had too much energy for his brakes to stop in time.

The white Dodge driver was cited for failure to control speed.

The driver of the red minivan is believed to have experienced minor injuries according to the investigating San Angelo Police Officer. He added that the Dodge dually was using the proper trailer and tires for hauling a 5,000 pound load.

The San Angelo Fire Department and EMS tended to the scene.
