Semi Truck Overturned on Loop 306 and Pulliam Leaks Sticky Substance

The San Angelo Police Department are diverting traffic on the access road of north Loop 306 near the Pulliam offramp, due a motor vehicle accident involving a semi tanker truck carrying tallow. A sticker on the back of the truck reads "Inedible tallow. Not intended for human consumption."

The truck has rolled onto its side and is leaking fluid and officials are currently disseminating sand over the sticky and smelly substance.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident and the driver has been loaded into an ambulance. He suffered minor lacerations and was taken Shannon Hospital.

The 18-wheeler was trying to make a left turn to get onto the onramp, when the truck tilted and fell over, said Ricky Long, Battalion Chief for the SAFD.

TXDOT is on the way out with sand and a front end loader to prevent the grease from running into a nearby storm drain.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is also on the way.

The call came in at 10:34 a.m.

Update 11:31 a.m.

Update 12:37 p.m.

Officers have determined the crash is in the DPS' jurisdiction. TXDOT is putting down sand to soak up the grease.

Update 1:04 p.m.

There's an implication that the various LE groups engaged in a measuring contest of some kind for an hour before anyone worked on cleanup. I hope I'm misreading that.
