Wall High FFA to Hold Raffle for a John Deere Gator ATV

Two Wall High School students in that school’s Future Farmers of America were on hand at the rodeo Wednesday to show-off a new John Deere all-terrain vehicle the organization is raffling off in a fundraiser.

Ross Baxter and Charles Robinson are both sophomores at Wall.

“You learn a lot of good skills for life. You learn how to weld; you learn how to be a good leader. And you get work experience while learning about agriculture,” Baxter said. Baxter shows hogs at the stock show. He didn’t win anything this year, but it was his first year. “I just didn’t have enough expertise this year,” he said. Baxter is proud of his efforts, however, and said that the experience positive. He said he intends to conquer showing hogs his junior and senior years at Wall. Baxter was wearing a Texas A&M cap and said he wouldn’t mind becoming a real Aggie after high school.

Next to Baxter was his friend and FFA cohort Charles Robinson. Robinson, also in his second year in the organization, said he wants to become a football coach and is interested in studying kinesiology in college. “The FAA is learning about leadership for me,” Robinson said.

The raffle prize, a John Deere Gator XUV 550 S4, lists for about $10,000. The raffle prize comes with a custom-built trailer. Tickets are $20 each. Money raised will fund Wall’s FFA program, including trips and other large expenses to attend FFA events across the country.

The raffle ticket sales continue throughout the remainder of the rodeo. You can inspect the Gator and purchase tickets at the Wall FFA booth near the KGKL 97.5 FM broadcast booth in front of the beer barn.
