Layman has served as the board’s president for the past 14 years. His at-large position was up for re-election this year and Giroux challenged him over primarily the failed school bond attempts last year. Giroux thought the bond election could have been handled differently. When asked how he would do it, he suggested the school board should have asked for only half the $150 million.

Layman retired as CEO of Standard Sales in December and said he has more time to dedicate to the district. Under Layman’s leadership, school district property tax rates have remained flat, though property valuations have risen. Layman was quick to point out that the school board doesn’t set property valuations, the appraisal district does under a myriad of mandates from the State of Texas government.

In early voting, 1,454 voted in the San Angelo ISD trustee election. Total turnout for the San Angelo ISD election was 2,732 voters.

Total early voting turnout was 1651 votes out of 58,423 registered voters. Total turnout was 3,248 which includes voters in the Wall ISD election.

If you voted for Lanny, don’t complain when the SAISD pushes out another worthless school bond & continues to raise our already way to high property taxes! You have voted & you have chosen higher taxes...sad!
