Turnout for School Board Election Extremely Low in Early Voting

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Early voting turnout for the May 4 school board election in San Angelo has been abysmal.

Today is the final day of early voting and only 609 people had cast ballots early as of Tuesday morning.

There are approximately 64,000 registered voters in Tom Green County.

The San Angelo Independent School District trustee election has only one contested race and that is for trustee at-large.

Incumbent SAISD board president Lanny Layman is being challenged by Chris Giroux.

There are also school board trustee elections in Wall and Veribest.

Residents can cast ballots in person today at the Keyes building at 113 W. Beauregard Ave. until 7 p.m.

Election day is Saturday May 4 and 18 polling locations will be open around the county.

According to elections administrator Vona Hudson, Southland Baptist Church will not be open and the Bus Depot has been relocate to the Annex Building at 506 N. Chadbourne; Paulann Baptist Church has been moved to Howard College in the Student Services Building; and St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall has been moved to the Wall Brethren Church.

Hudson says those moves are for this election only.

Polling locations will be open election day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the all new voting machines have touch screens.

Voters can request paper ballots today.  On election day, voters will have to cast electronic ballots.
