Governer Abbott Proclaims Next Week "Texas School Choice Week"

 

AUSTIN, TX-- Governer Greg Abbott has proclaimed the week of Jan. 20 as Texas School Choice Week.

Over 5,000 events have been planned across the state of Texas to raise awareness about the educational opportunities parents have for their kids. Events such as rallies, roundtable discussions, coffeehouse meet-ups, festivals, and school fairs will be hosted around the state throughout the week.

"As governor, I am committed to expanding educational opportunities for Texas students and empowering parents to choose the best schools for their children," said Governor Abbott. "The state of Texas is honored to join millions of school choice advocates across the nation to raise awareness of the need for effective education options Texas students. During School Choice Week and beyond, the Lone Star State will continue working to give students the education system they deserve."

The main rally will be at the capital on January 23. The event will be from 10-11:30 a.m. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Assistant U.S. Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education Frank Brogan, and Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush will be speaking at the event.

"As families from across the state of Texas make their way to Austin for the 2019 School Choice Rally, one thing is clear: parents want education options," said Randan Steinhauser, event organizer and founder of the Texas School Choice Coalition. "We are excited to celebrate the diverse landscape of existing choice options while also recognizing that far too many families in Texas do no have access to an educational environment that works for their family."

The week is to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2019, which will feature more than 40,00 school choice events across all 50 states.
