SAN ANGELO, TX -- Republican United States Congressman Mike Conaway, CD 11, spent the last two days co-hosting the 15th annual West Texas Legislative Summit at Angelo State University while Democrat Congressman Beto O’Rourke avoided the groundbreaking summit in order to host a beer drinking campaign stop in San Angelo.
O’Rourke chose to spend Thursday campaigning with the Tom Green County Democrat Party at the closed Concho Pearl Icehouse on S. Chadbourne. See the pictures above.
O’Rourke is the darling of the Liberal Texas media and has been given a pass on drinking and swearing.
Congressman O’Rourke is running against Texas United States Junior Senator Ted Cruz in the November general election. According to 12th Annual Texas Lyceum Poll released Aug. 1, Senator Ted Cruz, the Republican incumbent, carries a slim two-percentage point lead over Congressman Beto O’Rourke, 41 to 39 percent among likely voters. The poll reported 19 percent undecided. The result is within the poll's margin of error (+/- 4.67%).
Senator Cruz has not visited San Angelo for this election cycle, though there is a rumor he will visit here Aug. 8. The Ted Cruz schedule officially shows Cruz events up to Aug. 4 in Austin.

PermalinkTotally misleading headline. Ted Cruz was no where near the summit and in fact hasn't made time to connect with voters like Beto. This was a great opportunity to hear what Beto has to say. He talked about border security, increasing health/mental health access for Vets and the negative impact of tariffs on local farmers. He also spoke one on one with constituents. He's charasmatic and has a Bobby Kennedy vibe! Go #BRTO

PermalinkIf it is the 15th annual summit, how can it be groundbreaking? Maybe you meant the groundbreaking for the concentration camp at GAFB that good old Con-man Conway helped bring to town. Now as far as "Lying Ted", as Trump calls him, he won't be missed if he peddles his political BS elsewhere, since he could care less about West Texas, except for his share of oil money from the lobbyists. Cheers for Beto, bottoms up "Beer drinking democrats" as the former GOP national delegate calls you! Let's have another round!

PermalinkSupporting a bill to limit assault weapons does not make you a "gun grabber". It shows that he wants to do something about this rash of school shootings/ public shooting. Seems like a lawmakers listening to the people.

PermalinkI'd suggest really sitting down and reading the language of that particular bill. it would effectively ban all semi-automatic weapons as well as shotguns. its embarrassing that Beto signed it.

PermalinkOil, oil, oil. Frack, Frack, Frack. With the ongoing water shortages, aquifers dwindling, and bad environmental policies of the far right, to go and hear cheerleading for the oil industry would be a waste of time. Was Rafael in attendance? They probably could not afford to book him. For sure less than 30 people showed up. Rafael doesn't waste his time on constituents numbering 30 or less.
Given a pass for drinking and swearing huh? He is just a normal guy then, who speaks his mind, the right wing should love him.

What will be the environmental impact of raising tens of millions of Hispanics to a first world lifestyle (being paid for through tax dollars, largely)? The aquifers are a problem but I don't see democrats doing anything about it.

PermalinkI too am concerned that Cruz has seen to absent himself from us. I do not particularly care for him, but sure do not want to see rubber stamp Pelosi, mad Maxie, Hilery folowers and the like in control. What assurances, if any did he give that he will pursue what is right and what the people want who elected him rather than follow the party line? It's all acrap shoot, isn't it folks?

PermalinkVery bias article. I attended this very informative meeting, and I had not one beer because I don't drink at all. I don't judge others that do. You wrote that the "Liberal Press seems to give him a pass on drinking and swearing. The POTUS may not drink, but he certainly does his fair share of swearing. I have yet to see any "Conservative Media" call him out on that.
