Tornado Hits Prisons Near Abilene

 

ABILENE, TX – A tornado apparently hit two state prison units near Abilene overnight causing major damage but no injuries.

According to information from KTXS, a tornado struck the French Robertson Unit and the Middleton Unit in Hamby northeast of Abilene.

Photos show vehicles damaged in parking lots.

Reports indicate the perimeter fence at the French Robertson Unit was damaged and a brick wall was also damaged.

Prison officials say no staff or prisoners were injured during the storm.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is assessing the situation and will release more information later.
