NWS: Tornado Drill Thursday

SAN ANGELO, TX – This week, March 1-7, marks the opening of severe weather season and the National Weather Service office in San Angelo will be testing the emergency alert system at 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

The NWS is encouraging all residents, businesses and schools across West Central Texas to practice a tornado drill on Thursday, March 5th at 10:00 a.m. or at a time and date that is convenient. The NWS in San Angelo will transmit a Routine Weekly Test Message through the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on that day and time. Because of the test message format, it may or may not activate certain NOAA Weather Radios.

Have at least two ways to receive life-saving NWS warnings automatically such as NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio and a cell phone with a weather app.  Some communities and TV stations offer timely warnings apps.  Contact your emergency management office or your local TV station to see if these services are available in your area.  You can also search online for your favorite warning alert app.

Have a safe shelter plan before the storm and practice it.
