NWS: Watch Upgraded to Winter Weather Advisory for the Concho Valley

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – The winter weather watch for the Concho Valley and Big Country has been upgraded to a winter weather advisory which begins at 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. 

According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, a winter weather advisory will be in effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday night to 6 p.m. Wednesday evening. 

The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for sleet, freezing rain and snow which is in effect from 9 p.m. this evening to 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

An accumulation of sleet topped by 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected in the Concho Valley and northern Heartland including Sterling, Coke, Runnels, Irion, Tom Green, Concho, Coleman, and Brown counties from late  Tuesday tonight through Wednesday afternoon.

Hazardous travel conditions will develop late Tuesday night and will continue into Wednesday.

Heavy snow is expected tonight through Wednesday for the Big Country, with several inches expected especially north of I-20. Sleet, snow, and freezing rain is expected late tonight and Wednesday across the Concho Valley, Heartland, and northern Edwards Plateau. Accumulations of ice and snow will make for hazardous road conditions for motorists. The morning commute Wednesday morning will be significantly impacted.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.

The forecast calls for rain, snow, and sleet before midnight, then snow and sleet between midnight and 3am, then snow after 3am. Low around 27. Wind chill values between 16 and 21. North northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

On Wednesday, snow is likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy and cold, with a high near 31. Wind chill values between 14 and 22. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
