Tornadoes Possible Tonight

SAN ANGELO, TX — An upper level low pressure system is forecast to blow through the Concho Valley Friday night bringing the possibility of strong to severe storms and even an isolated tornado.

National Weather Service in San Angelo meteorologist Christopher Daniels says the main threat will be severe thunderstorms, “Current computer models show the window for storm development in the Concho Valley is between midnight and 8 a.m. but for San Angelo itself storms should develop between 3 and 6 a.m.”

Daniels says some areas could see heavy rain overnight.  “Areas where strong thunderstorms develop could see between 1/2 and one inch of rain.”

According to the NWS thunderstorms are expected to develop across the area late this evening and overnight. A few storms may become severe, mainly along and north of a San Angelo to Brownwood line. The main threat will be damaging winds and large hail, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Thunderstorms are expected to be ongoing across the area Saturday morning. A few storms may be strong to locally severe across the Concho Valley, Heartland and Big Country, with hail and wind the main threats.

There is a 70 percent chance of rain Friday night and into Saturday morning across West Central Texas.

The NWS recommends having two sources of information to monitor changes in the weather.
