Storm System Bringing High Winds and Maybe a Light Dusting of Snow Thursday

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Forecasters say San Angelo can expect high winds as a storm system blows through the area on Thursday and while snow is expected from Sterling City to Robert Lee to Ballinger, only a light dusting is expected in San Angelo. 

The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 9 a.m. Thursday to midnight Thursday night.

A Winter Weather Watch is in effect for counties north of San Angelo.  

Northwest winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts as high as 55 mph are forecast for the San Angelo area. 

Travel will become difficult, particularly for high profile vehicles on east-west highways.

Lightweight items may be blown around, small tree limbs may be blown down. Reduced visibility may occur due to blowing dust.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult,especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

There is a 60 percent chance of precipitation in San Angelo Thursday with temperatures dropping from the mid 40s throughout the day. 

Forecasters say rain and snow is likely Thursday night with temperatures around freezing.  

Temperatures will warm up Friday to the mid 50s.  

While conditions in the Concho Valley continue to develop the NWS may issue additional weather advisories. 

The storm system is forecast to impact Central and North Texas as well.  The Mason football playoff game scheduled for Thursday in Waco has been postponed until Friday because of weather.
