Four Missing in Junction Flooding Identified as Search Continues

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The search continues in Junction for the four people missing in the recent flooding. 

On Tuesday, the Junction Eagle posted on its Facebook page that the four missing persons from the recent flood have been identified.

Debbie Cooper Kistler, a reporter for the Eagle, stated that a San Angelo man, Darin Hartman, has been reported to be missing by members of the First Methodist Church in San Angelo. Mike McGee, Charlotte Moye, and Joey Huss, all from Flomaton, Alabama, have been reported missing by the Escambia County, Alabama, Sheriff’s Department. No names have been released by local authorities.

This morning, 50 soldiers from Austin's Camp Mabry are going to travel to Junction to join the search. A Texas Parks and Wildlife drone will also be used. 

Junction authorities have reported that 40-45 people were evacuated and 19 people were rescued.

Four people and one dog were retrieved by a San Antonio-based DPS helicopter with Game Warden Cody Buckaloo bringing stranded people up to the helicopter on cables.

Swift-water rescue teams made 15 extractions with boats.

Oct. 8, the Llano River in Junction reached flood stage with over 118,000 cubic-feet-per second pouring into the confluence of the North and South Llano Rivers located on the east side of he City of Junction. The river reached a height well above flood stage of 31.2 feet just before 10 a.m. Oct. 8, according to data from the U.S.G.S. The height was about 2.5 feet and a flow rate of 120 cfps just prior to the deluge Monday.

The most recent floodings for the Llano River were November 3, 2000 (35.08 ft.) and November 17, 2004 (31.47 ft.).

This current flood event is ranked as the sixth highest, at 31.2 ft. Anything over 31 ft. is considered a “major flood stage,” according to the National Weather Service.
