Trump Approval Ratings Remain High With Area Politicians

WASHINGTON, DC — President Donald J. Trump is riding high in the polls this week despite the impeachment inquiry being in the news as it ended Wednesday when the U.S. Senate voted to acquit him of all charges brought against him by the House. Rasmussen Reports reported that Trump’s approval rating was 48 percent, the same approval rating President Barrack Obama had at the same duration into his presidency.

Trump’s popularity has never risen above 53 percent in the Rasmussen poll, but he is popular with politicians around here.

Congressman Mike Conaway praised Trump’s State of the Union speech delivered Tuesday night.

“President Trump’s address showcased his optimism for America’s future and commitment to putting our nation and citizens first. Tonight, he celebrated the successes of the last three years and called on Members of Congress to put aside their partisan animosities and join him in creating an even better tomorrow,” Conaway said in a prepared statement.

“President Trump’s pro-growth policies have fostered a strong American economy that is exceeding all expectations. Americans are safer, thanks to his administration’s focus on increasing our military strength and readiness. And President Trump is delivering on his promise to our nation’s farmers and ranchers with two historic trade deals that expand market access for American agriculture and provide additional certainty for our farm families.

“I support the President’s forward-looking vision and optimism for a stronger America, and call on my colleagues in Congress to work with him to bolster our strong economy, protect U.S. national security, and make life easier for our working families back home,” Conaway concluded.

The next day, the Senate voted to acquit Trump on two charges the House made against him. The first article of impeachment alleged that Trump used the power of the presidency for his personal advantage. Every Republican except Senator Mitt Romney of Utah voted against it, and it failed 52-48. The second article alleged Trump obstructed congress. Even Romney said no, and that charge was batted down 53-47.

Conaway, who sat through much of the impeachment hearings while sitting on the House Intelligence Committee where Rep. Adam Schiff led the charge against the president, had a front row seat to the Democrats’ maneuvers to impeach Trump.

“Democrats have been working to overturn the 2016 election and oust President Trump from office since the day he was elected, and they have subjected Americans to their ridiculous tirade each step of the way. When their claims that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to interfere in the 2016 election were proven false by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and then again by Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report, they pivoted their focus to the President’s dealings in Ukraine,” said Conaway.

“For months now, Congress has been consumed with a baseless, partisan impeachment effort rife with calculated, political motivations and blatant lies. Today’s vote in the Senate affirms that at no point were we presented with any evidence to prove the President has done anything to warrant removal from office.

“Democrats have not only done a serious disservice to the American people by neglecting their duties in favor of partisan whims – they have forever damaged the credibility of the U.S. Congress by turning impeachment into a political tool,” he said.

Conaway announced last August that he was not seeking another term as the 11th Congressional District’s representative. There are 10 candidates running to replace the retiring Conaway. One of them, J. Ross Lacy, a Republican candidate, especially took issue with Sen. Mitt Romney’s decision to vote for convicting the president.

“The witch hunt is finally over and President Trump is vindicated. Ever since Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016, sore-loser Democrats have been staging an attempted coup to overthrow our President. I'm outraged that another sore loser, Senator Mitt Romney – who was too weak to beat Barack Obama in 2012 and is forever bitter he will never be President – voted with the Democrats in favor of impeachment. Mitt Romney is a disgrace who should resign immediately, and be expelled from the Republican Party. As your Congressman, I will stand with President Trump to keep America great and drain the swamp, starting with RINOs like Mitt Romney,” Lacy said in a statement.

A Paul Harvey quote - If pro is the opposite of con then what is the opposite of progress???

Impeachment acquittal, Dems can't count past their digits in Iowa, Pelosi throwing a baby fit at SOTU, an avowed Communist/Socialist as the current Dem front runner, record unemployment, record wage growth for lower wage earners, a reinstatement of the middle class that Obama destroyed, stronger border enforcement, but mainly a President who kept his campaign promises to the American people he loves. It simply does not get much better! KEEP AMERICA GREAT!!!

President Trump has fought a constant, uphill battle for the American people since he's entered the White House. Now the latest obstruction by his opposition, the attempted "impeachment" coup, has been thwarted. The will of the American people has won over the interests of our would-be autocrats, and unlike the people of France, we didn't even have to riot in the capital for it to be recognized. His victory over the machinations of his opposition says a lot about the resolve and ability of the person Americans have chosen to lead them into the future against the entrenched corruption, ineffectual leadership, and complacency that the President is upending.

The laws of our government say that President Trump is now eligible for a third term, and if he's willing to run again in 2024, he deserves the next 8 years in office!

"The laws of our government say that President Trump is now eligible for a third term..."

Mike Huckabee said this and thus proves again he is an idiot.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."

No person can be elected three times. Trump was elected in 2016, so he can only win election one more time. No impeachment exception.

Are you certain of that, or were you advised by the same legal experts who have been working to remove the President from office?

Despite his boasts about "great economic success," job growth under President Donald Trump significantly trails the gains made during former President Barack Obama's final three years in office.

"If we hadn't reversed the failed economic policies of the previous administration, the world would not now be witnessing this great economic success," Trump declared during last week's State of the Union address.

Though Trump claims that the economy is stronger than ever, revised numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that job growth fell to an eight-year low in 2019 despite 2.1 million new jobs. Trump's best year was 2018, when the economy created 2.31 million jobs, which still fell short of the job gains in any of Obama's last three years in office, MSNBC reported.

Since Trump took office, the economy has created about 6.56 million jobs, according to BLS data. By comparison, the economy created 8.08 million jobs under Obama during the three years preceding Trump's presidency.

The government previously reported that the 2017 Republican tax cuts helped lead to the creation of 223,000 jobs per month in 2018. Revised figures show that the real number was closer to 193,000 jobs per month, while other years were largely unchanged, Slate's Jordan Weissman reported.

"Based on the old numbers, it looked like Trump had inherited a steady economy but gave hiring a boost in 2018 through some deficit-fueled stimulus," Weissman wrote. "Based on the new numbers, it looks like he inherited a steadily growing economy and didn't do much at all."

Trump's boasts about the strong economy he inherited from Obama are just some of the accomplishments for which he has tried credit from his predecessor. Trump has claimed credit for a decline in U.S. cancer deaths, which happened before he even took office. He also said one of his "greatest honors" was passing the Veterans Choice Act, which Obama signed in 2014.

In fact, Trump's policies have hampered the economy. An analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office found that Trump's trade war negated potentially positive effects from his tax cuts while hampering manufacturing, farming and other key industries. The trade war has lowered the average family's real income by $1,277, amounting to a tax increase of more than 60%, according to the data. Meanwhile, large companies have taken advantage of the new tax law to record a historic $806 billion in stock buybacks in 2018 (up 55% from 2017), while declining government revenues caused the deficit to grow to more than $1 trillion.

Trump previously vowed to eliminate the deficit and the entire federal debt within eight years, but the White House budget proposal released on Monday showing that the administration does not even expect to eliminate the deficit over the next decade — even with the use of incredibly optimistic growth projections.

"He's largely riding trends he inherited," Jared Bernstein, who served as the chief economist to former Vice President Joe Biden, told HuffPost, noting that economic growth levels have fallen to around 2%, which Trump repeatedly decried as weak under Obama.

Trump's policies have not just failed to grow the economy more than 5%, as predicted. They have also hurt the industries they ostensibly sought to help. Trump's trade war contributed to a months-long manufacturing recession last year, which led to a decrease in employment. Farm bankruptcies skyrocketed despite Trump's farmer bailout, which cost more than twice what Obama spent to bail out the auto industry.

David Rothschild, an economist with Microsoft Research, told HuffPost that little had changed in the economy from the "last several years of the Obama administration" except for the drag effect caused by Trump's trade war.

"There are markets we're probably not going to get back, and we're going to have nothing to show for it," Rothschild said. "The economy is moving along pretty well despite the best efforts of Donald Trump."

Great propaganda piece, Expat. "Make America Think AGain," "MATAG," (like "Maytag,") really sticks in the mind and I like how you give the info of the author from the Ukraine so as to tout him as some super-legit source of information on the topic. Him and salon.com. LOL.

I love to learn from you guys on the Left and the way you hide the assumptions you frame your arguments in so that the reader processes (and accepts) them subconsciously is truly masterful. I also like how you guys' stuff simply omits certain facts and presents the ones you share from a carefully calculated angle, (far from your opponents perspective, of course,) so that your pieces are technically true, albeit missing important contextual information. Add a few bold-faced lies based on information no one can really confirm or negate, and it's golden.

I look forward to reading more of what you have to share in the future!

The article says that the President didn't give some government employees the raises they wanted, the implication here being that he sees the financial well-being of the American tax payer as being a serious and immediate concern. That's right. YOU, the tax payer, are the most important concern to the President, and that's why he takes the economy very seriously and cuts back spending to ensure you can enjoy it!

Don't really see why the author is so butthurt about that.
