Congressman Mike Conaway Votes Against Ending Government Shutdown

Congressman Mike Conaway (R-MAF) voted against the Senate compromise to end the federal government shutdown and raise its debt ceiling Wednesday evening. The final House tally on the legislation was 285 to 144. All 198 Democrats voted in favor;  Republicans voted against it 144-87.

The Senate compromise was attached to an earlier crafted House bill designed to verify the income of Obamacare subsidy recipients. “To condition the provision of premium and cost-sharing subsidies under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act upon a certification that a program to verify household income and other qualifications for such subsidies is operational, and for other purposes,” reads H.R. 2775.

The second day of the government shutdown, Conaway announced that he will forego his salary until the government re-opened. Now that the crisis is over, he can resume receiving his $174,000 annual salary.

Attempts to reach Congressman Conaway’s Chief of Staff Scott Graves this afternoon via email were unsuccessful.

Both U.S. Senators from Texas, Sen. John Cornyn and Sen. Ted Cruz voted against ending the shutdown and raising the debt ceiling.

Reid knew last night that they had the votes in both houses to pass it. Nobody was going to let it go past this imaginary deadline. Mike's vote to continue funding the NSA spying is stuck in my craw. Oh well...On to Immigration!
This is not a FIX. This will resurface in 3 months. No one accomplished anything. It's still the same vile atmosphere it has been. DISGUSTED with our leaders
