ABILENE, TX — Less than a week after testing positive for coronavirus Abilene Mayor Anthony Williams confirmed he has now self-quarantined in a local hotel.
"I had a tough time Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I felt better yesterday but I can't sleep well," said Williams.
According to KTXS, Williams was exposed to the virus after touring a non-profit facility on July 23.
"My main symptoms were a lot of body soreness in the lower extremities, my hamstrings, my calves just aching," said Williams.
According to the mayor, he doesn’t have much of an appetite, which is a symptom associated with COVID-19. He is also confirmed he has Hydroxychloroquine on hand in the event he may need to take the medication.
Hydroxychloroquine is a medication that is typically used to treat malaria, lupus, and arthritis.
"My instructions from my physician is only take that if I have a hard time breathing," said Williams.
According to Williams, he has been taking a lot of vitamins and staying hydrated
As he deals with the virus, the mayor’s daily agenda has changed dramatically. Before contracting the virus the mayor was busy with running his printing business, his job at ACU, and taking care of his duties as mayor.
"I did seven to eight meetings every week, so looking at four walls is very challenging," said Williams.
The mayor plans to head back home on Friday and quarantine for several more days. He told local media he plans to fire up is BBQ as soon he gets home. Williams' wife tested negative for the virus.
