Coronavirus: Big Spring Confirms First Case is 74-Year-Old Female

 

BIG SPRING, TX – On Wednesday afternoon the City of Big Spring and Howard County officials were notified of the first confirmed case of coronavirus in the community.

The city and county have confirmed the patient is a 74-year-old female that is currently being treated at Scenic Mountain Medical Center.

“In order to prepare for the COVID-19 pandemic local officials have worked quickly to direct local medical professionals to the state and federal resources available for items such as PPE's and continue to work with state and federal officials on appropriating some of these items,” officials said in the statement.

At this moment, the source of exposure for the patient is unknown. Officials announced the will be hosting a press conference that will be held at the City of Big Spring Council Chambers at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, April 8th, 2020.

As of Tuesday, April 7, 2020, Howard County had performed 60 tests with 56 returning negative.
