In San Angelo, Some Healthcare Workers are Laid Off and Doctors are Asking for Your Help

SAN ANGELO, TX — The United Way Concho Valley has set up a fundraiser to help non-emergent health care workers who have been laid off due to the COVID-19. The fundraising idea comes from a group of San Angelo doctors who saw a problem and joined together to create the solution.

Hundreds of workers in the health care field were laid off due to them being non-emergent personnel.

The United Way of the Concho Valley is facilitating a fundraiser and estimates that about 40 families are impacted at any given time. They believe more and more will come everyday.

“A group of concerned doctors came to us needing a portal to help these people,” said Ashley Ammons, Director of the UWCV. “We at the United Way love to help so we found a way to do it.”

The United Way set up a way for these workers and their families to continue to live by raising money to give them gift cards to grocery stores around town.

It is estimated that it will cost $50 for every two people in a household. All funds raised will benefit furloughed non-emergent healthcare workers. Because the donation is to the United Way, all you give is tax deductible. Also, Ammons said that they have earmarked every dime donated to this initiative will go towards the laid-off healthcare workers.

So, what you're saying is the United Way is only going to support the Drs. chosen pets only and NOT the people that probably need it the most. Sorry, not sorry. What a complete farce. They need to help all of these needy folks, not just the select few.

Ha !!! Every time I've gone to a doctor I'm staggered at what they charged me to perform some procedure. I think as a group, if they are so concerned about this mission, they can all just pony up what's needed from all the exorbitant fees they've charged us as their patients.....

Why didn't the Dr's that saw the need pull from their funds, which is probably more than most others have, to take care of others in the medical field. They saw the need but chose to push it onto others. The United Way should be ashamed of themselves by earmarking that money for ONLY healthcare workers. If a family comes in and is about to lose everything but they were just measley fastfood employees, oh well.
