Midland-Odessa Chinese Association Donates 5,000 Medical Masks to Local Hospitals

MIDLAND, TX – Organizations across the Permian Basin are doing their part to provide healthcare workers with the equipment they desperately need.

According to CBS7, the Midland-Odessa Chinese Association came together to raise more than $5,000 of supplies for nurses in both cities.

“This is a historical, critical moment of the nation,” Midland-Odessa Chinese Association President Luke Young said. “Probably of entire mankind. So, we don’t want to be left behind. We want to be here to help.”

With the funds raised, the association was able to donate more than 5,000 masks and 600 pairs of gloves this week.

Access to personal protective equipment has become limited in cities across the country that are combating the growing number of cases coronavirus.

“Well take any and everything you’ve got because we don’t how long this will go on so bring it on,” MCH CEO Russell Tippin said in a press conference earlier this week.”

The Chinese-American community faced a horrible hate crime in February after a father and son were attacked in Sam’s Club. But the association is focused on leaving those attacks behind and helping their community in any way they can.

“Our culture is known for being kind to strangers and our culture is known for an emphasis on education and all that. So that blends with our culture perfectly. That’s why we’re here and why we are proud to be a member of West Texas.”
