13-Year-Old Texas Football Player Dies at Practice

 

CROWLEY, TX -- A Crowley, TX middle school football player collapsed at practice and later died Wednesday in north Texas.  

According to the Ft. Worth Star Telegram, Kyrell McBride-Johnson collapsed at Summer Creek Middle School, according to the Crowley school district superintendent and the Tarrant County medical examiner.

McBride-Johnson experienced a medical emergency during practice that left him unresponsive, according to a letter sent to parents from superintendent Michael McFarland.  Coaches performed CPR and he was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The teenager was pronounced dead by the medical examiner Wednesday evening.  No cause of death has been released.

Wednesday was the second day classes in the middle school.  Crowley is just south of Ft. Worth.
