Aggie Singing Cadets Perform in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Singing Cadets of Texas A&M University performed Friday night at the Southland Baptist Church.

The Singing Cadets were formed in 1893 at the A&M College of Texas. The all-male choir is one of the oldest in the nation. The performance in San Angelo is part of their tour of Texas. Thursday evening, the Cadets performed in Midland. Saturday night, they will perform in Austin. When touring, area Aggie families host three or four cadets in their homes.

Of the highlights for this year’s cadets was the honor of performing at the burial service for President George H. W. Bush on Dec. 6. Every cadet still wears a commemorative gold pin of the number “41” in the late president’s honor. The George H.W. Bush Presidential Library is located at the south side of the A&M campus in College Station.

During Friday night’s performance, one highlight was when the Cadets sang a medley as a tribute to The Right Honourable The Lord Lloyd-Webber, Kt, an English composer who is famous of the Academy Award-winning Best Original Song from the 1996 movie Evita (“You Must Love Me”). Lloyd-Webber co-wrote it with Sir Tim Price.
