Winter Weather Affects Events at Christmas at Old Fort Concho

 

SAN ANGELO, TX-- An arctic cold front will bring the coldest air of the season to the Concho Valley Friday affecting events at Christmas at Old Ft. Concho. 

According to the City of San Angelo Public Information Office, several outdoor entertainment groups have already been moved onto barracks porches and inside several buildings.

All merchants will be inside as well as most of the other activities and events. The cowboy breakfast, church service, and both main entertainments will be in Barracks 1 and the chapel.

There will be tons of activities going on throughout the weekend. including Children's events, Merchant booths, Gingerbread House Contest, Living History Camps, Santa's House and many more.

The festivities for will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a Winter Rendezvous opening followed by a Historical Walking Tour. Also, from 5-8 p.m. Santa will be in the Santa House. The Fort will close at 8 p.m that day.

On Saturday morning the Lions Club will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast with Santa. These will be served at the stables and tickets will be $10 a person and children under six eat for free. At 10:30 a.m. Miss Birdie will be having a tea party for all girls ages five to eleven. Then an hour later go to the gunfight in Old Santa Angela.

At 2:00 p.m. on Saturday the Fort Concho Enterprise will be hosting a baseball game. Then that night starting at 7 p.m. there will "A Night in the Stables" where music will be played for everyone to dance the night away.

Sunday morning the San Angelo Cowboy Church Chuck Wagon Team will be hosting a cowboy chuck wagon breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fried taters, with coffee and juice. Followed by a cowboy church service at 10 a.m. which will have old-fashioned church choirs and other special entertainers.

To finish off the weekend they will be putting on a winter rendezvous retreat ceremony.

Daily admission for adults is seven dollars, for seniors and military members is five dollars, children from the ages of seven to seventeen is three dollars, and children under six is free.

Weekend passes are also available for adults is $14, for seniors and military member is $10 dollars, and for children it is six dollars.

The gates will open of Friday from 3-8 p.m., on Saturday 9-7 p.m., and on Sunday 11-4 p.m.

Proceeds benefit ongoing restoration projects and educational programs at Fort Concho National Historic Landmark.
