SAN ANGELO, TX — Tonight’s concert headlined by the Josh Abbott Band was canceled by concert promoter Jayson Adams just before 3 p.m. The wet weather, now a continuous drizzle, is only going to get worse, he said.
Heavy rain is forecasted this evening after 7 p.m. In an updated verbal briefing with LIVE!, the San Angelo NWS said the heaviest rain will most likely fall between 8 p.m and midnight.
If no heavy rain happens, steady light rain will last all evening. Flash flooding will depend on your location and how much rain falls, but it is expected, the San Angelo office of the National Weather Service said.
San Angelo is experiencing the fallout from a tropical depression that is moving in from the Gulf of Mexico. Tropical depressions are very efficient in delivering large volumes of water, NWS said. Expect 2-3 inches of rain Saturday night in some areas. Other areas will get 0.5 to 2 inches of rainfall.
The main body of a tropical depression is transitioning from San Antonio northwest-bound through Kimble County and Kerrville right now. San Angelo sits on the northern boundary of the outlying bands. Gov. Abbott issued a Disaster Declaration yesterday for Gulf coast counties yesterday.
In the Concho Valley, the San Angelo NWS issued a flash flood warning valid until 8 a.m. Sunday morning. Much of the ground is already saturated from rain earlier this week. More rainfall may flood some areas, they said.
The depression is moving at just 5-10 mph. Most of the rain will occur along the I-10 corridor, NWS said.
