Abilene ISD Reacts to Administrators Not Wearing Face Masks During Retreat

ABILENE, TX — The Abilene Independent School District admitted they did not follow proper COVID-19 safety guidelines during a two-day administrator’s retreat at the Abilene Convention Center.

According to KTXS, in a picture shared on social media, several administration officials are shown either not wearing face masks or not wearing them properly.

When asked if it was a mistake to not enforce mask guidelines the district agreed.

"Yes, I don't think anybody else would disagree with that," said Lance Fleming, AISD's Communications Director.

According to Fleming, during the retreat administrators discussed many issues that relate directly to COVID-19 and the upcoming school year; including the proper use of face masks.

KTXS reporter John Rupolo asked Fleming the following question: "You were teaching administrators about the proper use of face masks, but they weren't being used properly at the meeting. Can you see an issue with that?"

"No doubt. But you have to take into context some of what was going on people drinking water and coffee," said Fleming.

According to Fleming the video of the meeting was removed from the AISD website because it “supposed to be information for parents tomorrow.” She stated there was "nothing sinister going on.”

According to local media, administrators did arrive and leave the retreat wearing their face masks.

"The safety and health of our students, faculty, staff, and our community are at the heart of every decision we make," said Fleming.

I don't think so. This statement is a bunch of codswallop. It has become a politically correct statement to make. Actions speak louder than words. Will the administrators wear masks in their schools? Will they enforce the mask requirements among faculty, staff, and students? What will happen the first time a parent is called to the school to bring a mask for their child? Will they even let a child into a building without a mask? Tens of thousands of parents each year do not have the money to buy the things on the school supply list. Where will they get money for over 200 masks per school year? Will there be playground time? Will children congregate on the yard? Will they wear masks when they play outside? So many details involved in organizing, maintaining, and guiding a school even without a pandemic. With a pandemic? Using children as guinea pigs.
