Princeton Review Ranks Angelo State in Top Tier of "Best Colleges"

SAN ANGELO, TX — For the 11th consecutive year, Angelo State University has been listed by The Princeton Review as one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education, an honor that goes to only about 13 percent of the nation’s more than 3,000 four-year colleges.

The education services company features Angelo State in the 2020 edition of its annual college guide, “The Best 385 Colleges,” published Aug. 6 by Random House. The guide is The Princeton Review’s (TPR) flagship publication and includes detailed profiles of the colleges with rating scores that are based on surveys of 140,000 students nationally.

ASU is one of 14 Texas institutions and one of only six Texas public universities to make the 2020 “Best Colleges” list.

“Last year, we hit the 10-year milestone of making the ‘Best Colleges’ list, and this is a great way to start the next decade,” said ASU President Brian J. May. “The best part about being ranked by The Princeton Review is that the rankings are based mainly on feedback from our students. We strive to balance offering a great education with also offering services, programs and activities that provide our students with the complete college experience. Our continued ranking by The Princeton Review is an awesome reflection on the entire Ram Family.”

The 84-question TPR survey asks students to rate their own schools on numerous topics and report on their campus experiences. Topics range from assessments of academics and professors to campus culture and student life. Based on the survey results, ASU also earned the following rankings:

• No. 10 – Best-Run Colleges
• No. 11 – Most Conservative Students
• No. 13 – Town-Gown Relations are Great
• No. 16 – Lots of Race/Class Interaction

TPR also listed Angelo State among the “Great Schools” for two of the top 20 most popular undergraduate majors, agriculture and nursing. On a scale of 60-99, ASU also received a Quality of Life Rating of 92, a Fire Safety Rating of 96 and a Green Rating of 84. Other student survey results for ASU indicate:

• Recreation facilities are great
• Intramural sports are popular
• Students love San Angelo, Texas
• Everyone loves the Rams

The latest TPR guide states that “Angelo State puts forth an academic environment that is ‘small enough to foster a sense of family among its students, but large enough to carry out the usual dealings of universities that have many more students.’ Among these offerings are ‘outstanding instructors,’ ‘top-rated programs,’ and a low faculty-to-student ratio. The students at Angelo State University offer an extraordinarily ‘friendly and welcoming’ atmosphere on campus. It’s also a large enough school that ‘you are constantly meeting new people, but at the same time you get to see the people you are well-acquainted with.’ Students at the school affectionately refer to fellow members of the university as the ‘Ram Fam.’”
