Museum Invites All to Celebrate its Family Lunar New Year

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — On Saturday February 10, the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts will host Family Lunar New Year at the Art Museum located at One Love Street. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event celebrates the Lunar New Year with SAMFA and The Association of Asian American Women of San Angelo. There, one can explore traditional cuisine, artifacts, and music from different cultures while learning about the Lunar New Year.

SAMFA invites all to see cooking demos led by AAAW members at 11:00 a.m. including sesame balls, noodles, and dessert wontons, followed by a 1:00 p.m. demonstration with local Vietnamese chef Quang Le.

One can calso practice Chinese Calligraphy from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Concho Tai Chi will present interactive performances at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Another tradition, the giving of the red envelopes, allows participants to design an envelope and fill it with wisdom and wealth. Enjoy New Year games too!

Participants can also join staff and volunteers in creating projects in the education studio celebrating the Year of the Dog along with an astrology wheel project, or construct your own Chinese Dragon.

Registration for SAMFA’s Spring Break Camp 2018 “Art Institute” will open at 10:00 a.m. during this event.
