Drunk Driver Attacks Police Officers After Chase

 

ODESSA, TX — The Odessa Police Department has confirmed the arrest fo a 34-year-old man who allegedly rammed into police vehicles and tried to take an officer’s weapon.

According to the police department, an officer was traveling along I-20 near FM 1936 when he observed the suspect, identified as Matthew Aaron Barnett, attacking another driver.

The subsequent investigation revealed that Barnett rammed vehicles on the interstate and drove them off the road. After getting out of his vehicle Barnett threatened those around him with a metal pipe.

When the officer intervened Barnett then began swinging at the officer and actively resisted arrest. He then attempted to grab the officer’s gun several times.

Nearby citizens came to the officer’s aid and Barnett was eventually taken into custody. Officers also determined that Barnett was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

At least three drivers will file charges against Barnett and as of this time he has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Attempt to Take a Weapon from a Police Officer, Resisting Search or Transport, and Driving While Intoxicated.
