More Details Emerge About Police Shooting Near The Bluffs

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Police Department spokeswoman Cpl. Tracy Piatt-Fox would only say that the incident was "an officer-involved shooting." What follows are bits and pieces we heard when the incident was happening.

A GMC SUV with what appeared to be the back window shot out was abandoned at Mercedes and Arden Rd. From the best we can tell at this early portion of this breaking news is the vehicle was driven by suspects in a police chase.

At the Mercedes intersection, at least one suspect fled the vehicle in foot and the next thing we heard were reports of gunfire. The foot chase was reported happening near the spillway for O.C. Fisher Reservoir. One witness told us two San Angelo police cruisers had stopped the GMC and the driver exited the vehicle while holding a handgun to his own head. He fled police on foot and police followed. Over the police radio, several gunshots were heard. One officer informed others that the suspect had shot twice at him before the officer was heard firing his gun.

This information above is from radio reports and from one eyewitness. Police have not released any official details.

Police briefed the media at 5:20 p.m. and had very little to say except that the incident is an officer-involved shooting. Piatt-Fox released no details of if the officer or suspect was harmed or killed. Several roadways will be closed Wednesday evening while police and presumably the Texas Rangers conduct the shooting investigation.

Police said there will be no through traffic on Arden Rd from Mercedes to Hunters Glen during the shooting investigation. Police advise that if you live in the Bluffs, to use an alternate route to get home.

... more details than they did. Seems like the suspect may have been at that Drug Rehab center that's there in near the Bluffs. Prayers for all individuals involved in this incident.
